Physiotherapy and saddle fitting

At EquiSound we attach great importance to the cooperation between veterinarians, the physiotherapist and the saddle fitter. Poor performance and others disorders are not cured with only drugs. Physiotherapy focuses on the evaluation and treatment of all complaints related to the orthopaedic system.

Your sports horse is a top athlete

We demand enormous performances of sport horses in all disciplines. That is why injuries at tendons, joints, bones, the pelvis, back, … are common. Pain and discomfort lead to poor performance and even more injuries e.g. at the contralateral leg due to compensation. Horses are as sensitive to (muscle) injuries as humane athletes. A human athlete is immediately going to the physiotherapist, but a horses can’t tell us if he experiences a discomfort. Due to pain a horse will compensate to reduce the pain level, while training and competition are going on. This can result in lameness, back pain, tendon or ligament injuries.

Treat the cause, not the symptom

Movements start with the alternations of contraction and relaxation of the muscles. Pain will disturb the mechanism and causes limitations in the movement. The horse will be stiff or show a shorter or irregular stride which lead to an excessive strain of the tendons, ligaments and joints. Unilateral pain will lead to an asymmetric load of the axial skeleton of the horse and thus to vertebral blockades.

It is essential to treat the cause of these complaints by physiotherapy, not only with osteopathy or chiropractic. As long as the muscles are painful, the blockades will return.

The treatment of riding problems

When experiencing the complaints below, an examination of your horse by an experienced physiotherapist is recommended.
